| Virginia Towne, a lyric coloratura soprano, has
recently returned to California after living and singing for many years in Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Amsterdam and Vienna. Born in Everett, Washington, reared in Reseda, California by her Grandmother...won P.T.A. scholarship in voice...awarded an appearance with the San Fernando Valley Symphony Orchestra…attended Pierce College, Woodland Hills (Associate of Arts) with honors in music...continued at U.C.L.A...private vocal training with Alice Mock (U.S.C.). Invited by German Television ARD in Munich to sing opposite Nicolai Gedda in MEIN LIEBER SCHWAN, A TRIBUTE TO LEO SLEZAK... later featured in VON UNS FUER SIE (From Us to You) for ZDF TELEVISION IN Berlin... German theater debut as Lisa in DAS LAND DES LAECHELNS (Land of Smiles) in Berlin's THEATER DES WESTENS opposite Giuseppe di Stefano...brought back as Saffi in THE GIPSY BARON, with Rudolf Schock...As Alede, later as Rosalinde in DIE FLEDERMAUS and as guest star in many other operettas. Opera engagements: MAINZ CITY OPERA as Nedda in I PAGLIACCI, Margiana in DER BARBER VON BAGDAD, Olympia. Antonia, Gulietta in THE TALES OF HOFFMANN, Lucia in LUCIA DI LAMMERMOOR…and in KASSEL STATE OPERA as Palas Athena in THE CORONATION OF POPPEA, and many more... As Violetta in LA TRAVIATA and as Oscar in UN BALLO IN MASCHERA throughout Europe with the OPERA DI MILANO D'lTALIA. At the Berlin Philharmonic, starred in CARMINA BURANA, and in several evenings of opera, operetta and musical highlights…other concerts in German cathedrals and churches included EXCULTATE JUBILATE. Also sang the soprano solo in DIR, SEELE DES WELTALLS, the Schubert G MAJOR MASS, and last Christmas, DIE WEIHNACHTS LIEDER from Peter Cornelius. Also performed recently as Melanie in GONE WITH THE WIND-a musical. At the present time Virginia is appearing in showcases and competitions with the Global Rhythm Dance Studio. |
