2/11/06 show report:
We played at a little venue called the DAAC which
caters to a more all ages crowd (teens and early twenties). I was
kind of apprehensive about playing this gig because we were the
only band on the bill that wasn't grindcore. We have our
similarities, but we do have our glaring differences (song
length, subject matter) so I was concerned if the crowd was going
to like us. We played last on the bill with Tough Shit opening up
with their blast beat ridden ditties. In fact, I don't think any
of the four opening bands had songs that were longer than two
minutes. Two of the bands after Tough Shit I'm CERTAIN only had
ten minute long sets! CRAZY! I don't get it because it seemed
like it took more time for them to set up than to play their set.
Hombrinus Dudes was the second to last act and I was impressed by
this two-piece act. In fact, I was happy that there was a lot of
blast beat action coming from all these bands! SPEED RULES! We
took a while to set up. Maybe longer than usual, but not by much.
I played a couple songs to the crowd as they waited for us to get
ready to play. I did Astro Zombies by the Misfits and some of
Thus Spake the Nightspirit by Emperor. I think we did alright for
the kind of venue that they have. We had to set up differently
than usual because they didn't have monitors so I set up my amp
by my drummer and cranked it louder than usual so he could hear
it over his playing. I doubt we won them all over, hell we write
longer songs and I'm not big into political themes, but it really
made my day when two guys named Jeff (Geoff?) and Brian (Bryan?)
told me how they came all the way from MSU in hopes to see Ozenza
(they cancelled) but came away lovin' The 'Thrash! Thanks to
Graham from The Hombrinus Dudes for the invite! We'll have to do
it again some time for sure. Shout outs to fellow alumni Jose and
Heather as well for stopping by to hear the fury, Elise for
showing up and for being a Bolt Thrower fan (FUCKIN' BOLT THROWER
RULES!! WHERE NEXT TO CONQUER!!) and my apologies to the guy who
wanted to buy a shirt but didn't have enough money. Maybe next
time, man.
