01-05-07 The Heavyweights Battle of the
Bands at The Intersection Best. Show. Ever! After being denied the past two years, we finally got into the Intersection/KLQ Heavyweights Battle of the Bands and it was AWESOME! I'll admit that I was expecting everything that could go wrong would go wrong like broken strings, our amps crapping out, somebody falling off the stage etc., but no. With the exception of me accidentally switching to an off pickup on my guitar during the end of Perpetual Speed, things went off without a hitch! When we stepped onto that stage and I looked out into that crowd of several hundred people, I felt like we were a signed national act and like a signed national act, we gave that crowd our fuckin' "A" game! A tight, high speed, relentless assault soon followed and it felt great to look out and see a pit of crazed headbangers thrashin' all around and acting like maniacs! Kjell brought the percussive hammer down, Will our bassist was a whirlwind headbangin' so much that I thought his head was going to fly off and Brennan had more energy than a room full of ADD patients without their fuckin' Ritalin! From the stage I saw a few familiar faces in the crowd namely our former bassist Tony who played with us for six months, then devoted himself to his other band Dissonant full time, but has since hung up his four-string for the married life. It looked like it was all coming back to him! Cool! Anyway, I can't stress enough how great a time we all had. We rocked the crowd, sold some new items of merch like stickers and hoodies and some cds. I got my hands on the title card that the hottie models used to introduce us and we took some pictures of it with us and the models and I think I'm going to frame it. One of the cool people I met was Stephanie, a non dorky anime fan who likes Macross Plus the Movie and Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust. I'm hoping that we'll hang out some day and talk some more anime. Unfortuantely we didn't win. Unaltered did. Oh well. We can't please 'em all, but we felt like winners just to have the opportunity to play before so many people. I felt like the secret was finally out of the bag. That there's a killer band out there called Ultrathrash and we're here to kick some fuckin' ass free of excessive breakdowns and heavy on the speed and fury! If you liked what you heard of us, we hope to see you at our next show! 'Til Next We Thrash! Oh yeah, thanks to Anthony Nowack and John B for the awesome pictures! |
