What a night! What a fuckin' night! And what a great
turnout! For those of you who weren't at Ten Bells, you missed
the local equivalent of Clash of the fucking Titans! Summon,
Flesh for the Beast, Breaknek, Aeternal, and yours truly,
Ultrathrash brought the hammer down that night for the hungry
masses! We kicked things off with a blistering set of high speed,
thrashing death metal. We whipped out the folowing
Ultrathrashterpieces from our repertoire of onslaughts:
"Perpetual Speed", "Bludgeon",
"Lacerating the Sanity", "House of Gore", a
brand new song called "Burn" made its debut that night,
and we finished it off with "Sound the Gore Gong". It
was awesome! We played our hearts out to a good sized crowd for
an opening act, complete with some cool lighting by Ozwald (Flesh
for the Beast's lighting guy, mad props to ya, Ozwald), fog
machine, our insignia banners and stage presense to spare! The
metal onslaught had just begun!
Aeternal picked up where we left off, and let me tell you, these
guys never fail to amaze with their precise, technical,
solo-heavy extreme metal! Unlike so many other technical,
progressive groups, these guys have actual songs to accompany
their six-string wizardry. It was nice to see that they had a
full lineup again since Gabe came back as their bassist and have
turned into a very tight musical force to be reckoned with!
Breaknek, albeit not necessarily in the vein of fast, blastbeat
driven metal, are still a fuckin' heavy band nonetheless and I
guess tempo-wise they were a nice break for the people who might
get burned out on all the speed (y'know, the weaklings!). Hey
Joel, I like your band, but really, why do you keep wrapping the
microphone cord around your neck?! Don't do it!! You have too
much to live for! Seriously, I guess every musician needs a
signature stage move. Tight, heavy, a punch to the face from the
hard side!
Flesh for the Beast! Man, those guys put on one hell of a show!
They had fog, a stage bathed in blood red lighting , severed head
props, ATMOSPHERE! They definitely had the look to go with their
diabolical death metal. With songs like "I Am Your
God", "Vengeance is Mine", "My Bloody Bitch
Hog", and "Eternity in Hell", this isn't some
weak-ass nu metal shit! This is the stuff that gives nu metal
fans nightmares and makes them want to learn how to play better!
Flesh for the Beast does it right with tradeoff guitar solos,
brutal riffs, pounding drums, and guttural growling vocals!
MYYYYYYY BLOODY BITCH HOG!
Last but certainly not least, a dark cloud appeared on the stage
in the form of Summon! Summon brought their blackened thrash
attack to the Ten Bells stage cranking out the old faves like
"Enter Into Eternal Oath", "Burning Black
Desire", and "And The Blood Runs Black" and
material off their new album "Fallen" like
"Fallen", "Mindrot", "Blood Red
Skies", "Sacred Nothing", and "Beating Down
Christ". They don't call themselves "satanic beer
metal" for nothing because as the night wore on, it seemed
that the beer was starting to get the best of them with their
crazy stage antics and falling over and what not. I gotta tell ya
though, that their drummer is a fuckin' blast beat machine! You
like fast? You like raspy vocals? You like EVIL?! Then don't miss
SUMMON!
All in all, this was an awesome night! This was everything I
dreamt it woud be because we finally got to play with metal bands
in our genre! The camaraderie, the extreme metal, the everything
made it all worth it! WE EVEN GOT PAID! I want to thank John Rios
from Flesh for the Beast and Summon for inviting us to play. I
hope we can do it again sometime. Here are some more shoutouts:
Ozwald, thanks for the light show. We watched it on playback and
it was really cool! Hey Hraefenzaj (pronounced Raven's Eye),
thanks for coming all the way from Muskegon and digging our old
school assault, and Secretia Noxious who came all the way here
from Colofuckin'rado to this show! Yeah' I know, she came mainly
for Xaphan, but she was around for the whole show. Hey Secretia,
may I get a copy of the photo you took of me in front of the
stage during the Summon show? If so, thanks! Email it to our site
on myspace or our email link on www.ultrathrash.com. This was the
night of nights for me and for the rest of Ultrathrash. I also
want to give a shoutout to the sound guy. You did an awesome job
making every one sound great and I want to thank Kevin aka
"Metal" for helping to pass out our flyers. Oh and how
can I forget Rebekki (Sweet Majestic D(a/o)rkness) for the
wonderful compliments about the flyers I made! For all those who
love what we do, we'll be doing it again on Saturday January 27th
at Ten Bells with Through the Mist and Filmore Slim (?!) Some Sin
and The Sleeves(?!). I know it's an odd lineup, but oh well. 'Til
Next We Thrash, this is Adrian from Ultrathrash saying STAY
METAL!
