11/18/05 show pics:
Thanks to Val for taking the photos!
This was our first showw with Will back in the band
and when we broke into our first song, it was like he had never
left! The members from the competing bands, a punk band called
The Battlescars and an odd group called The Cartridge Family were
moshing to our stuff, we had no fuckups and my buddies Kirk and
Brad from Viral Mentality showed up to give their support!
The Battlescars played next. They were very much a punk band in
music and appearance with mohawks and everything. I dug this
band's catchy uptempo music, especially Cool Cat (it'll have you
doing Jazz hands!) and a song that reminded me of a Crass tune.
Don't piss off the lead singer though! I found out that he served
for a few years in the Armed Forces as a Ranger and Airborne!
DON'T FUCK WITH THIS GUY!!
After The Battlescars finished, along came The Cartridge Family!
I wasn't expecting a band this big! A fifteen piece band! They
were odd to say the least, but they were fun to watch! Some of
these guys were dressed like dogs, pandas, toy soldiers and so on
and playing everything from conventional instruments like
guitars, drums, and horns, to hammering on junk. As far as actual
songs, all their material was improvised--a big jam session. I
almost wanted to grab something and join in the fun except that
we were competing against them! They unfortunately pissed off the
owners when they pulled out a slip n slide with bubble solution
and one of them broke a toilet that was being used for
percussion!
Anyway, we won that night and got to play the next night opening
up for a cover band called Iron Pig (they played after the
Cartridge Family on Friday), we got $100, I got my picture taken
with a hot mother and her hot daughter and helped zip up another
hottie's pants to keep the masses from seeing her plump,
boyshort-clad derriere! I look forward to doing more shows at The
Rocker now that The Radio Tavern is nothing but rubble! 'Til Next
We Thrash!
